What is Root Canal Retreatment?
Root canal retreatment is a dental procedure performed when a previously treated root canal becomes reinfected or fails to heal properly. This can occur due to persistent bacteria, new decay, a fractured tooth, or complications from the initial treatment. During retreatment, the endodontist removes the existing filling material, cleans and disinfects the root canals, and then reseals them to prevent further infection. In some cases, additional procedures like apicoectomy (removal of the root tip) may be necessary. Root canal retreatment can help save the tooth and relieve pain, providing a long-term solution to maintain oral health.
