Post Surgery Instructions:
Proper post-operative care is essential for optimal healing. Please follow these instructions:
Bleeding Control:
- Minor bleeding or oozing is normal for the first few hours after surgery.
- Place a clean gauze pad over the surgical site and apply gentle pressure for 30 to 45 minutes.
- If bleeding persists, replace the gauze and apply pressure for another hour.
- As an alternative, a moistened tea bag can be used; the tannic acid in tea helps form a clot.
- Avoid spitting, using straws, and smoking, as these actions can dislodge the blood clot and prolong bleeding.

Swelling Management:
- Swelling is common and typically peaks within 24 to 48 hours post-surgery.
- Apply an ice pack to the cheek near the surgical area: 15 to 20 minutes on, then 10 minutes off. Repeat as needed during waking hours for the first 24 hours.
- Keep your head elevated, especially during sleep, to help reduce swelling.
- After 48 hours, switch to moist heat applications to facilitate further swelling reduction.

Pain Management:
- Take prescribed pain medications as directed.
- Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be used if appropriate.
- Avoid aspirin, as it can increase bleeding.

Oral Hygiene:
- Begin gentle rinsing with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water) every few hours, starting the day after surgery.
- Avoid alcohol-containing mouth rinses for the first few days.
- Brush your teeth carefully, avoiding the surgical area for the first day. Resume gentle brushing of the surgical site after 48 hours, being cautious around any stitches.

Diet:
- Consume soft foods once the anesthesia wears off. Suitable options include eggs, soup, pancakes, milkshakes, or yogurt.
- Avoid chewing directly on the surgical site and steer clear of spicy or hot (temperature) foods.
- Maintain regular meals to stay nourished and hydrated, which aids healing.

Activity:
- Rest for the remainder of the day following surgery.
- Avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for at least 3 to 5 days.
- Most patients can return to work or school after one day, but a gradual resumption of normal activities is recommended.

Additional Precautions:
- Refrain from smoking, as it can impede healing and increase the risk of infection.
- Avoid using straws, as the suction can disrupt the surgical site.
- Do not lift your lip to examine the stitches, as this may cause tearing and delay healing.

Follow-Up:
- Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments to monitor healing and have sutures removed if necessary.
